12mm Plywood Sheets Types and Gradings

There are several different varieties of plywood, depending on the application you’re using it for, but the four most common types of plywood are softwood, hardwood, birch and marine ply. Wood comes in a variety of grades – we offer the grades listed below. See our wood grading guide for more information on the types available.

  •     Softwood Plywood is the most commonly manufactured plywood and is available in various thicknesses. It’s typically used in construction projects as it’s affordable and versatile. There are several grades of this wood to choose between, from C+/C grade which has knots on both sides of the wood, with those on the facing C+ side filled and touch sanded.
  •     Hardwood plywood is made from stronger timbers and is commonly used for applications which require longevity. Chinese hardwood plywood is a high BB/CC grade wood which means it has few knots and slight discolouration to the surface of the wood, with a CC grade reverse.
  •     Birch plywood that we offer comes in high B/BB grade which provides a clear and smooth surface and is best-suited to applications where the appearance of the wood is important or for printing onto.
  •     Marine Plywood is for use in environments where the wood is exposed to moisture for extended periods. The type of wood we offer has a high-quality BB/BB face grade and is well-suited to demanding environments such as gardens, bathrooms and parks as well as for roof supports and advertising panels.

Advantages of 12mm Plywood Sheets

From its high strength and lightweight properties to the affordability of this material, plywood sheets have a great number of beneficial and unique qualities. The layered construction of this wood results in incredible strength. It can also cope with heavy weights being placed on it without bending, as it can spread the impact efficiently for less tensile strength. It’s resistant to changes in temperature and moisture without losing any structural integrity. 12mm plywood sheets can also be used in a range of environments, both internal and external, offering plenty of versatility.
